WHAT IS A LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE?

Have you heard the term “liberal arts” and wondered what it meant?”

“Liberal arts” can be defined as an academic program or degree that is focused on either  a major discipline or provides a multi-disciplinary approach within the arts and social sciences.

At King’s, whether selecting a program in Arts, Childhood and Social Institutions, Management and Organizational Studies, Social Justice and Peace Studies , Social Sciences or Social Work, (all the programs at King’s) you will be provided with the opportunity of studying in a range of subjects—learning both the subject matter, the objectives of the discipline as well as it methods of inquiry and analysis.  In this radically changing world, a broadness of knowledge and approach is critical.

A liberal arts education will provide you with the fundamental skills necessary to think clearly, acquire knowledge independently and express yourself fluently.  King’s provides a small, supportive, interactive environment (both academic and social) where you also gain further experience as both a leader and team player, developing your strengths while exploring new challenges.

With information overload and 24/7 access to technology, it is critical to be able to learn new skills and to adapt to new environments.  In a global world, graduates must be both sensitive and responsive to the local and global issues around them.  There is an increasing demand, both in society and in the workplace, for communicators, activists, innovators, problem solvers, managers and interpreters, individuals with liberal arts degrees have proven to be intelligent, articulate and flexible enough to meet these challenges.

In addition to a challenging, satisfying and rewarding career, a liberal arts degree will teach you the pleasure and joy for learning for its own sake.  At King’s, we provide a positive learning and living environment where you will be exposed to a myriad of ideas and experiences which will provide the foundation for a full, meaningful life.

At King’s we believe that your liberal arts education will provide you with the tools and drive to be informed, active citizens committed to a fair and just society.

At King’s, you are connected and make a difference.
